Sojourners
Doug’s first published story, “The Career of Horville Sash,” appeared in the June 1980 issue of Sojourners magazine. That story, reprinted in many publications, was made into a music video starring Grammy-winner Jennifer Warnes.

The Wittenburg Door
Doug was a regular contributor and columnist for the Christian humor magazine, The Wittenburg Door, from 1981 to 1997. He also contributed some single-panel cartoons. 

Dash
From 1980 to 1990, Doug regularly wrote fiction for Dash magazine, a publication for junior-high boys put out by Christian Service Brigade. He also wrote the storyline and dialogue for a three-page cartoon, Cleaver Crunch, which appeared in every issue.

Venture
From 1980 to 1990, Doug regularly wrote fiction and short, humorous parables for Venture magazine, a publication for high school boys put out by Christian Service Brigade.

FreeWay
From 1984 to 1990, Doug wrote short, humorous parables for FreeWay, a weekly Sunday School publication put out by Scripture Press.

Guideposts for Teens
Doug created the concept and text for a two-page cartoon feature, “Jurassic High,” which appeared in the inaugural issue of Guideposts for Teens in 1998.

Prairie Farmer
As a writer for the University of Illinois College of Agriculture, Doug contributed many stories over the years to Prairie Farmer magazine, the leading farm magazine in Illinois. He covered topics that ranged from biofuels and soil erosion to self-propelled tractors.

Illinois Research
From 1991 to 2000, Doug wrote science stories for Illinois Research, a magazine published by the University of Illinois College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. Subjects ranged from the Dust Bowl to genetic engineering.

LAS News
Since 2006, Doug has written feature and news stories for LAS News, a magazine published by the University of Illinois College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
