VeggieTales Family Devotional
I spent months and months deciding between this book and other family devotionals. I definitely made the right decision! My children (ages 1, 3, and 4) are drawn in by the VeggieTales characters and their story. Our favorite Veggie characters are on a deserted island and what ensues is loads of Veggie fun and great learning. Each story is followed by a Bible story that parallels the “God Connection” shown. The suggestions that Larry gives in his “Think, Link, Act” section encourage them to live out what they have learned in their own lives. Their favorite part is the “Family Fun Connection” where we all take part in a hands-on activity that is loads of fun and brings home the point of the devotion. Great book! Even I can’t wait to see what happens tonight to our favorite Veggies!

Sheerluck Holmes and the Hounds of Baker Street
“The game’s afoot!” I’ve seen this story on my DVD Sheerluck Holmes and the Golden Ruler and had it read to me. Now I want it more than ever! It’s nicely illustrated, just like many other VeggieTales books, and it’s full of mystery, but it’s not a cold case. To make it easier for kids, it doesn’t take long to figure it out! I say it’s the best book all parents should buy for their kids!

The Good, the Bad, and the Silly
My children are 7, 9, and 11, and they love all the VeggieTales books! The illustrations are bright and rich and all the stories are filled with Biblical values and are humorous!

Larry-Boy and the Rumor Weed
This is one of the best in the VeggieTales series, and the better of the two Larry-Boy videos. It presents the power of words in an attractive manner that is witty and inspiring. With its much improved animation, this second Larry-Boy film leaves the first one behind in the dust. There are a few similar scenes to Larry-Boy and the Fib from Outer Space. But they’re not very significant, as they are welcome additions with better detail and visual graphics. Plus this episode has more colorful characters and some fun music. I also think the storyline is cleverly written as well. A mix of humor, a little suspense and wordplay that relates to gardening or rumors. I love the pun about photosynthesis and Larry-Boy’s experience with the newly modified Larrymobile. The whole film is really quite entertaining, even for adults! The ending is charming too and should make you smile. It will always remain one of my big favorites, and I think it’s a highly recommendable choice from VeggieTales.

(Five
Stars) One of the Best
This is one of the best of all the VeggieTales !!!!
There is a valuable lesson concerning gossip and how it can hurt good people.
Our grandchildren totally enjoy Rumor Weed, and my husband and I enjoy watching
it with, or without, our grandchildren. THIS ONE IS GREAT! !!!!!!

(Five Stars) Packs a Punch
VeggieTales rule!
Family friendly and values-minded, VeggieTales is one of the best series
a parent can rely on to entertain the kids and teach them a lesson in values!
My kids, from age 4 to age 16, love Larry-Boy! Don’t hesitate. This is a
Biblically based lesson that is appealing in many ways visually and packs
a punch! The DVD provides additional background material that is interesting
to watch and some entertaining activities. The storyline is rich with applications
for the parent to piggyback off of to provide teaching moments with your
children. The primary focus of this video is the impact of gossip and rumors
and how it affects those talked about as well as those doing the talking.
A clear message is presented without being preachy or hokey. I highly recommend
it!!

(Five Stars) The Imagination is Awesome
This is such
a cute, cute video! They need to make more of these Larry-Boy videos because,
quite frankly, they’re hysterical. I love the spoof on Batman, and when Larry-Boy
needs to help the town of Bumblyburg, they shine the light in the sky just
like Batman. My son loved this so much that we had to go out to the local
Christian bookstore and get a Larrymobile…The morals are fabulous and teach
kids not to start lies about others. The rumor weed mother grows huge, complete
with the 50s-style sunglasses, long earrings, and that “dahling, did you
hear the one about...” is just hysterical. You’ll be laughing through this
one—the imagination is just awesome! WE want more!

(Five Stars) A Personal Favorite
It seems that Big
Idea can’t go wrong. My sister and I have enjoyed all their videos for years,
and this one is no exception. Whoever knew veggie-tables could be cute? I
love how they include little “in jokes” for the kids and parents. For example,
the whole Larry-Boy theme shows what would happen if Batman turned into a
cucumber. But at the same time, kiddies and the grown-ups get a moral lesson
at the end. This time, a “don’t spread rumors” value is the case. Junior
Asparagus and Laura Carrot misunderstand a figure of speech quoted by Alfred
(Archibald). Archy said that he had to “recharge his batteries,” so naturally
Junior and Laura think he’s a robot. A talking weed hears the story and spreads
a rumor all over Bumblyburg. So it’s up to Larry-Boy to stop it!! My sister
and I love the Biblical morals/lessons put into every VeggieTales film, and
this one is our personal favorite. The mother weed might be a little scary
for the kids, but overall it’s a sweet, entertaining story that families
around the world will enjoy.

(Five Stars) Hilarious!
This is probably one of my favorite VeggieTales.
I discovered this hilarious series babysitting my sisters (6 and 4). At first
I thought, “Great, a Christian show about vegetables, how boring,” but by
the end of it I was on the floor laughing, and my sisters were staring at
me like I was nuts…If you have young kids, or are just looking for a way
to relive your childhood, VeggieTales is the answer.

(Five
Stars) Marvelous!
I’ve seen all of the “VeggieTales” movies. My mom thought
they were just “cheesy” Christian movies. But when we saw our first one,
we found out they were cool and they ended up to be hysterical. Larry-Boy
is a super hero in Larry-Boy and the Rumor Weed. I enjoyed this movie because
Larry-Boy is really Larry the Cucumber, Bob the Tomato’s clumsy assistant.
The whole thing was marvelous, so enjoy Larry-Boy and the Rumor Weed!

(Five Stars) Wonderful!
This is one of the longer stories,
and the message is probably better suited to older children of school age
who are more apt to experience what a rumor is. My 1-year-old daughter loves
ALL her VeggieTales and this one is no exception! Larry the Cucumber as a
Batman-like Larry-Boy is just hysterical! The Rumor Weed is every bit the
menacing evil nemesis, but in a funny, gossipy-old-lady kind of way. As usual,
Junior Asparagus becomes the voice of reason and helps to save Bumblyburg.
A great addition to any VeggieTales collection! Fun for the whole family
and a wonderful alternative to typical Saturday morning TV, which is filled
with advertising and inappropriate messages.

It’s no rumor. It’s a fact that this is
a GREAT movie for all ages. My 1- and 3-year-olds LOVE it. We watch this
video over and over and really enjoy singing along to the songs. Larry-Boy
is the greatest!!! My husband and I really like the fact that not only is
this a funny movie (like all VeggieTales movies are), but one with a moral....My
kids prefer to watch Larry-Boy over all the other thousands of movies we
own.....This is a great one for your kiddos! Check it out!

(Five Stars) Don’t Leave Home Without It
It’s amazing how my hyperactive
nephew is able to sit down and watch VeggieTales over and over again! He
is 2 years old and his mom “never leaves home without it.” He knows all the
characters and sings all the silly songs, but most importantly, he is able
to learn God’s Word in a two-year-old’s kinda way. Children of all ages are
able to relate and understand the stories. God’s Word never comes back void,
and I know that the lessons my kids learn from these videos, they will never
forget. I even learn a thing or two just from watching VeggieTales! “dvoshun,”

(Five Stars) Good, Clean, Wacky Fun!
Larry-Boy,
our lovable, bumbling hero of Bumblyburg is back again! And this time, he’s
battling a sunglass-wearing Rumor Weed with a New York accent (who reminds
me of Joan Rivers!) that’s spreading a vicious rumor about Alfred ALL OVER
BUMBLYBURG! Yes fans, this video has definite parallels to Larry-Boy and
the Fib, but that just proves that the folks at Veggie-Tales are onto something
very important: Kids LOVE familiarity! My 5-year-old daughter is CRAZY about
this video. We’ve played it just about every day since we bought it! There’s
the usual message at the end (cruel words can hurt) along with a BRAND NEW
catchy song and lots of subtle humor that gets better with each additional
viewing! Spread the word: LARRY-BOY AND THE RUMOR WEED IS GOOD, CLEAN , WACKY
FUN!

(Five Stars) We Love It
My 2-year-old
has been watching VeggieTales videos at the sitters for months. We finally
bought some of these wonderful videos for home, and we love them all! Larry-Boy
and the Rumor Weed was the second we bought, and we all love it. Our two-year-old
son loves Larry-Boy and repeats almost every word of the video. While it
is true that this video does not follow the exact format of others in the
series, we find it to be a nice change of pace. There are many pluses to
this series, and they apply to this video as well as the others. It is great
for kids to have something really fun to watch and at the same time be learning
real Christian values and stories. We highly recommend Larry-Boy and the
Rumor Weed, as well as any in the VeggieTales series. We watch VeggieTales
every day at our house, and that not only includes the 2-year-old, but also
his 42-year-old mom and teenage brothers and sisters!

(Five Stars) Something for Everyone
Our purple and
yellow cucumber hero is back again, friends, battling evildoers in the (normally)
quiet town of Bumblyburg. Only this time, the bad guys don’t come from outer
space, but from under the ground. While it is not necessary to be familiar
with Larry-Boy and the Fib from Outer Space, where Larry’s alter-ego, Larry-Boy,
made his dramatic (if confused) appearance. There are a number of inside
jokes that make more sense if one is familiar with the first Larry-Boy tape
and the general opus of Big Idea’s (the producer’s) work… Every VeggieTales
tape I’ve seen (which is all but one) is excellently produced. There are
many religious videos for children that are good but do not have the standard
of animation, the quality of music and song, and range of audience that every
VeggieTales video has. Each tape is creative, fun to watch and appeals to
every age group on some level, and that is missing in a LOT of video, religious
or not. For example, infants/toddlers will like the big, “round” characters.
Preschool children will enjoy the slapstick and silly situations the characters
(most notably, Larry) get themselves into. Elementary school children will
enjoy the wordplay, the slapstick, and the message. Adults, who may otherwise
find themselves not watching at all, will be similarly glued to the show
for it’s subtle little zings—like the reference to Batman. (Personally, it’s
been my opinion that perhaps the reason parents don’t watch shows with their
children is because there is nothing in it for THEM—the adults.) Larry-Boy
and the Rumor Weed is slightly different from other VeggieTales tapes in
that (A) the cassette case is green and (B) the familiar opening theme song
and intro by Bob and Larry is missing. We also don’t get an old-fashioned
intermission of “Silly Songs with Larry.” But, near the end we get to glimpse
some other residents of Bumblyburg, including some mushrooms, red peppers,
and what appeared to be a small pumpkin. Is the regular cast of VeggieTales
to expand? Perhaps only Larry-Boy and Alfred know!

Larryboy and the Abominable Trashman
This is the eighth book about Larryboy, everyone’s favorite super-cucumber. (Really, how many of them do you know?) Anyway, this book centers on not letting your fear control you. (Note to parents: this does not send the message that it’s bad to be afraid.) So, the plot is that an “Abominable Trashman” is terrorizing everyone in Bumblyburg. They are so frightened of him that they will do everything he says. Meanwhile, Larry the Janitor is struggling with the decision whether to tell Vicki (who, like him, is a cucumber, only a girl. See something coming here?) that he is, in fact, Larryboy! Personally, I loved this book. Larryboy is, as always, adorable, fumbling around, trying to save the day, and ending up making things worse. I loved the fact that the “villain” controlling the Abominable Trashman was Awful Alvin. He’s my favorite of all the super-villains. (Especially watch the way he treats his, uh, helper.) Anyway, I hope this encourages you to go out and read this book. Oh, by the way, this book is Christian, but that doesn’t bother me. (I am, too.) Anyway, it’s not preachy, but it does teach a good message. Enjoy!

Larryboy in the Amazing Brain-Twister
As you might know, I love the Larryboy books (and movies). This one was no exception. I loved the fun characters (Fred the Computer was a hilarious addition), and the weird plots. As always, Larryboy has to save Bumblyburg, this time from a tornado that switches everyone’s brains around. Even though Larryboy’s brain is switched twice, he is still a hero. A worthy subplot is also included. Junior suddenly finds himself one of the “cool kids.” The ending definitely breaks new ground. I’m not going to tell you what it is, but you’ll be surprised. This is another great Larryboy book.

I just bought this book this evening for my 5-year-old daughter. We read this book a few moments ago. It is wonderful. The story is very captivating. The pictures are bright and the messages in the story are great. My daughter was able to learn life lessons without even recognizing it. She loved the book and vows to keep her room clean and not to blame other people for her mishaps. Great! Great Great read!

(Five Stars) For the Entire Family
I own this book because it’s the perfect way for telling the truth
and why we shouldn’t lie. I strongly recommend this book for kids,
but I also suggest it for teens because I myself lied and I won’t
do it again. There are three reasons why I like it:
1.
It kind of has a replica of certain detective agencies, and the
desk, desk lamp, and the trench coat Larry is wearing are some
examples.
2.
It’s silly and it can keep you laughing for hours like the way
Larry drives the police car and Bob does some things that makes
kids laugh like hitting his head on the roof of the car. There’s
also another funny moment: when Larry blew his nose in his notepad!
Ha, ha, ha!
3.
It teaches kids an important lesson about telling the truth so
that Junior Asparagus (and kids and especially teens) can never
lie again. Not ever.
This
book is perfect for kids ages 4 to 8, but the entire family can
enjoy it too!

Mess Detectives: The Don’t-Touchables
The second book of the Mess Detectives series is really cool. It teaches kids and especially teens about sharing…I like one page where Bob made his eyes look suspicious when he said, “What’s going on here?” He sounded pretty serious. It’s the same suspicious eyes you can find on the cover of The Mess Detectives: The Slobfather. Cool! In the end, Percy got along well with his little brother and shared his toys with him, and I think we all should do the same thing, too.

The entire VeggieTales series is excellent. They teach kids values, how special they are in God’s eyes, to come to believe that they have a place. I cannot imagine a better series. This book is great for teaching kids about what it means to be lazy and why they should not be lazy. Five stars for sure.

Secret Agent Worms: Beneath the City of Ooze
It’s been said that when Dr. Seuss children’s books were first published, they “delivered a karate chop to the weary little world of Dick and Jane.” Well, traditional nonpoint source pollution educational materials may have just received a roundhouse kick to their collective solar plexus, thanks to the Secret Agent Worms.
